The 1000 German words that do the work.
A few thousand words make up a language. A thousand of them make up most of what anyone actually says. WordLern teaches those, one card at a time, and schedules the review for you.
What it does
-
A word list that was edited, not scraped
1000 lemmas ranked by frequency in the Leipzig Corpora Collection, each given a single English meaning and one A1-level German example sentence — all checked by hand, one sense per word.
-
The Leitner system
Cards move through five boxes. Answer correctly and a card waits longer before it comes back; miss it and it returns to box one tomorrow. You study the words you keep forgetting, not the ones you know.
-
Spoken German
Every word and every sentence can be read aloud using the best German voice installed on your device.
-
Progress you can see
Words mastered out of 1000, the five boxes side by side, and a recap at the end of every session showing what moved.
-
Widgets
The same progress on your home screen and lock screen, with the number of cards due — or when the next one is.
-
One reminder, at the right time
A single notification scheduled for the moment your next card is actually due. Not a daily nag at nine o'clock.

WordLern makes no network calls at all. Everything you do stays on your device, which also means it works on a plane, on a train, and in a basement.
